Types of Gutters
Fall is almost here—time for the leaves to start changing colors soon. While the vibrant tones of autumn can be beautiful when you’re sitting outside and relaxing on your back patio, it means the leaves will start falling off the trees and getting clogged in gutters!
If your gutters aren’t up to the task, this fall is the perfect time to replace them. Your gutter system needs to be in top condition in order to minimize chances of problems occurring—such as leaks, mold and mildew growth, etc. Do you need to replace your old gutters?
The Different Types of Gutters
There are a few different types of gutters you can install.
Seamless gutters, also called continuous gutters, are one of the most popular types of gutters. They are continuous lengths that are measured and cut on site for a perfect fit. Seamless gutters are joined only at corners and where the gutters meet the downspouts—therefore, they are less likely to leak.
Half round gutters are rounded on the bottom and are found on many traditional and older period style homes. They can be seamless and made on site. Five inches and 6 inches are common half round gutter sizes.
K-style gutters aren’t rounded—they are more box-like. They are made of either aluminum or galvanized steel. Five inches and 6 inches are common sizes.
Sectional gutters are pieced together in 10- to 20-foot sections with multiple seams. The sections, as well as the gutters and downspouts—are joined together with connectors. While often a very affordable choice, sectional gutters have a higher potential for leaks. Today, they aren’t as commonly used as seamless gutters.
